10. Chrome Extension

The TrendCompare Chrome Extension ("extension") runs on supported brand websites to help you compare products. Here is what the extension does and does not do:

Data the extension collects

  • Product URL: The URL of the product page you are viewing, sent to our API to look up or add the product
  • Product price: The current price shown on the page, used to keep our price database up to date
  • Compare list: Products you add to compare are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) — not sent to any server

Data the extension does NOT collect

  • No personal information (name, email, login credentials)
  • No browsing history outside of supported brand websites
  • No cookies, passwords, or form data
  • No data from non-product pages (only product pages are processed)

Permissions

  • activeTab: To detect which brand website you are on and read product information from the current page
  • storage: To save your compare list locally in the browser
  • Host permissions (22 brand domains): To run the content script on supported brand websites only — the extension does not run on any other websites
